Make Your Own Lip Scrubs with These Easy Lip Scrub Recipes

We all know the dry winter weather and cold winds are renowned for causing dry and cracked skin, and unfortunately, our lips are not immune to this damage. With the winter weather well upon us, it’s important that we begin a lip scrub regime to keep our lips soft and crack-free. DIY lip scrubs to the rescue!

You can find lip scrubs in any major beauty store, but be prepared to pay a hefty price. Thankfully, lip scrubs are super easy to make, they take less than 2 minutes, and the best part is that all ingredients can be found inside your pantry.

Read on for my favourite lip scrub recipes:

Read on for the Ingredients and methods.

 Coconut Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp of melted coconut oil
  • 1 tsp of sugar

Method:
Mix the melted coconut oil in with the sugar and mix well.
If your coconut oil is hard, zap it in the microwave for a few seconds until it has turned to a liquid state. Be careful as coconut oil will heat up very quickly.
Apply your scrub with a toothbrush to exfoliate already dry lips. Or if you want a more gentle scrub, just apply with your finger and rub gently.
Once done, rinse your lips with a warm, wet face cloth.

Honey & Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp of sugar

Method:

The method for this scrub is the same as above, however, you if you store your honey in the fridge you will need to let the honey sit out at room temperature for around half an hour. This way it will mix in with the sugar a lot easier.

Aloe Vera, Cucumber and Honey Scrub & Balm

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbs honey
  • 1 tsp high-quality olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 alovera plant leaf

Method:

For this recipe, you’ll need to use a freshly cut leaf from an aloe vera plant. The longer the plant has been growing, the more potent the healing properties are.
Cut the leaf open, and using a spoon, scrape out the aloe vera gel.
Mix in the gel with the sugar, oil and honey.
You can leave out the sugar if you’d like to use the mixture as a lip balm rather than a scrub.

Minty Delight Lip Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 2 fresh Mint leaves
  • 1/4 cucumber – peeled
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

Method:

Using a mortar and pestle,  combine the cucumber and mint. Add the coconut oil and apply to the lips. Leave the mixture on for 5 minutes and rinse away with warm water.

All of these DIY lip scrubs can last around 1 week in the fridge. If you use a scrub with coconut oil, you will need to bring it to room temperature before using it, as coconut oil will harden in the fridge.
You can also transfer the mixtures into a clean empty lip balm container for a great travel alternative to a small tin.

Once you’ve tried these amazing DIY lip scrubs, you’ll never buy them again. Nothing beats fresh homemade lip scrubs that actually taste like the ingredients in them (because they are!).
Not to mention, they’re safe to use, aren’t full of processed ingredients and chemicals, and can literally be whipped up within a matter of minutes!

Let your creative side run free; mix as many of the above ingredients, and a few of your own, together to make new and exciting flavours.
